Think You Got Skillz?
Mad Artistic Design Skillz that is.
Want to PLAY in a VBmatch league or VBmatch tournaments for FREE ?
Or Want to WIN an Apple iPod Nano (6th Generation) ?
Here's your chance . . .
We want fresh new T-Shirts. If you have ideas for a cool design and can put pen to paper (actually, create a digital version of your original design), then we want to hear from you.
Submit your totally awesome original T-shirt design (in both JPEG format AND either EPS or Adobe Illustrator format*) by September 3, 2012 via email (design [at] vbmatch.com). * If you'd like to submit your design in a different format, please contact us to discuss other possible formats.
After the entry deadline expires, we will display your design (anonymously) online along with other submissions. Then we will invite members of the VBmatch community (people on the VBmatch NetAtlantic mailing list) to vote on their favorite three designs among the submissions.
A 1st choice vote from a VBmatch member equals 10 points; a 2nd choice vote equals 5 points; and a 3rd choice vote equals 2 points. The winning design will be the one which receives the most number of Points.
The person who submits the winning design shall receive the following: (a) a choice of ONE of the following three prizes: (1) an Apple iPod Nano (6th Generation); (2) free individual entry into a 2012 VBmatch league; or (3) free individual entry into four separate 2012 VBmatch tournaments; (b) recognition and credit for producing the winning design; (c) the option to publicize his design services to the VBmatch community via a banner ad (for a one-month period) on the VBmatch website and via one VBmatch email blast.
Design Criteria:
1. Create a cool design for a T-shirt that people will want to wear.
2. Make the design interesting enough that even non-volleyball players will do a double-take when they see it.
3. Use common sense. The design should be fun and positive and should not contain any elements that are offensive, rude or negative.
4. The design must be your own original design; not a derivative work of someone else's art. Do NOT infringe on someone else's intellectual property. Do NOT copy graphics you find elsewhere such as the internet since someone else may own the copyright for the graphics. Draw your own volleyball. Draw one-third of the ball; then copy it and rotate it 120 degrees; copy it again and rotate it another 120 degrees.
5. Be creative.
6. Contact Us if you have any questions.
Required Wording: "VBmatch" or "VBmatch.com" must be included somewhere in the design.
Optional Wording:
You may also include the phrase "Bay Area Volleyball" somewhere in the design. The concept of "Bay Area Volleyball" may be included graphically.
Required Theme:
- Volleyball
Optional Themes: VBmatch's goal is to host Fun, Social and Competitive Volleyball Activities. Do your best to communicate this through your design. Try to include as many of the following themes as possible, but there's no need to include all of them.
- Fun - Social - Competitive - Bay Area
- San Francisco - Bay Area Volleyball - Leagues - Tournaments - Clinics - Indoor Volleyball
- Grass Volleyball
- Volleyball Lifestyle
- Passion for Volleyball
- Volleyball Addiction
- Player playing volleyball (digging, hitting, serving, etc.)
Optional Play On Words:
Your design can have a play on words - namely, the word "match" has multiple meanings. e.g. match as in a "matchstick"; match as in pairing two compatible or identical things; match as in a "game" or "contest"; etc. This is a plus but not a requirement.

Limitations of Screen Printing / Colors:
The T-Shirt will have a maximum of three colors - so technically, your design can have fours colors (the color of the shirt itself, plus three different ink colors). In fact, it is slightly preferable to have just two ink colors i.e. 3 colors total including color of shirt which differs from the two ink colors.
Our T-shirt Screen Printer requires digital files in EPS format or Adobe Illustrator format. Furthermore, the different parts of your design must be isolated by color. For example, there needs to be a separate layer or separate file for the part of your design with color #1; a separate layer or separate file for the part of your design with color #2; etc.
For the contest's voting process, you must submit a single file (in JPEG format) containing your entire design in color for each Entry you submit. You may submit up to three Entries. Separate EPS or Adobe Illustrator files are also required for each submitted design. See Contest Rules below for details.
Contest Rules:
1. This design contest ("Contest") is open to any person who is a United States resident and is 18 years or older (as of May 27, 2012). A person who submits a design for this Contest shall be called a "Participant." VBmatch.com owner, E. Chen ("VBM"), may allow other individuals to participate in this Contest on a case-by-case basis.
2. Each Participant may submit up to three (3) designs ("Entries") for this Contest. Each Entry should include both a front-side design and back-side design for the T-Shirt. The maximum dimension for any design is 10-inches by 10-inches. Designs must be created via a vector program such as MacroMedia FreeHand or Adobe Illustrator and must be saved in files with the EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) format or .ai (Adobe Illustrator) format. When submitting Entries, Participant must submit both a JPEG file containing the design and either EPS file(s) or Adobe Illustrator file(s) containing the design. If necessary, the front and back designs of an Entry may be contained in separate files. However, you will need to specify this when you submit your Entry. *If you wish to submit your Entry in some other format, please send an email to discuss which other formats are acceptable before submitting your Entry.
3. By submitting an Entry, Participant agrees to these Rules. The deadline for submitting an Entry is July 31, 2012. (NOTE: The submission deadline has been extended to Monday, September 3, 2012.) Entries shall be submitted by emailing digital files containing Participant's designs to the following email address: design [at] vbmatch.com (of course, there are no spaces and [at] should be replaced with @). The submission deadline may be extended if fewer than four (4) persons submit Entries by the July 31, 2012 deadline. (NOTE: The submission deadline has been extended to Monday, September 3, 2012.)
4. Participant agrees that Participant will not be compensated for submitting any Entry.
5. Before embarking on any design effort for this Contest, prospective Participants shall notify VBM of their intent to submit an Entry. This way, if there are changes to the Design Criteria, VBM has a direct means of contacting all persons engaged in design efforts for this Contest.
6. Participant agrees that VBM may disqualify any Entry if in VBM's sole discretion the Entry's design is inconsistent with the nature or goals of VBmatch.
7. Only Entries that are submitted in accordance with all applicable rules governing this Contest will be eligible for selection.
8. By submitting a design entry, Participant represents that Participant's Entry is an original work by the Participant and has not been previously exhibited, published or transmitted. Participant further represents that the Entry does not contain the trademarks, designs, copyrighted works, intellectual property, names, likenesses or images of any person or entity or otherwise infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, privacy, publicity or other intellectual property rights of any person or entity. EXCEPTION: The use of the term "VBmatch" or "VBmatch.com" in the Entry is permitted and required.
9. Participant agrees to allow VBM to display Entry online in an anonymous fashion along with other Entries.
10. The winning design will be based on voting by VBmatch members (people who are on the VBmatch NetAtlantic mailing list). VBmatch members will be asked to vote for their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice among the Entries displayed online. A 1st choice vote from a VBmatch member equals 10 points; a 2nd choice vote equals 5 points; and a 3rd choice vote equals 2 points. The winning design will be the Entry that receives the most number of Points.
11. If Participant's Entry is selected as the winning design, Participant shall receive the following: (a) a choice of ONE of the following prizes: (1) an Apple iPod Nano (6th generation); (2) free individual entry for the Participant (non-transferrable) into a 2012 VBmatch volleyball league; or (3) free individual entry for the Participant (non-transferrable) into four separate VBmatch tournaments held in 2012; (b) recognition and credit for producing the winning Entry; (c) the option to publicize Participant's design services to the VBmatch community via a banner ad (for a one-month period) on the VBmatch website and via one VBmatch email blast.
12. Participant understands that if league registration or tournament registration requires a team entry, Participant will be solely responsible for recruiting teammate(s) and forming a team to enter the league or tournament. Furthermore Participant understands that Participant's teammates will be responsible for their own entry fees.
13. Participant agrees that if Participant's Entry is selected as the winner, VBM's only obligation is awarding the prize listed in Paragraph 11 above to Participant. VBM has no further obligation to Participant. Participant specifically accepts and acknowledges that VBM shall not be obligated to use Participant's Entry in any way.
14. Participant agrees that if Participant's Entry is selected as the winner, Participant shall give VBM a license for the Entry. This license shall be a perpetual, royalty-free exclusive license to use, edit, excerpt, copy, and/or publish Participant's Entry for any purpose whatsoever, including, without limitation, for use in advertising, promotion and trade and on merchandise ("License").
15. Participant further agrees that if Participant's Entry is selected as the winner, Participant shall provide EPS file(s) for the winning Entry suitable for use in T-Shirt Screen-Printing Process as specified here (see http://www.tshirtpros.com/artinfo_req.asp).
16. Participant further agrees that in the event Participant's Entry is not selected as the winner, VBM shall have the option (for up to 2 years from the Contest's submission deadline) to obtain a License (see Paragraph 14 above) for Participant's Entry in exchange for either free individual entry into a VBmatch league or free individual entry into four separate tournaments for the Participant (non-transferrable). (In other words, even if your design doesn't win by vote, if I like your design enough, I'm willing to give you free entry into a VBmatch League or four VBmatch tournaments to license your design.).
17. This Contest is governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California and Participants in the Contest hereby consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of those laws for any causes or controversies arising out of the Contest. Each Participant waives any and all objections to jurisdiction and venue in these courts. All national, federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited.
